Bored, I scroll through my phone in the lounge.
Half an hour passes. Still no sign of Lin Wen.
I put my phone away and wander outside. Passing another meeting room, I spot Lin Wen.
He’s sitting across from another man.
Hmm? What’s this about?
“Mr. Liang, about this partnership...” Lin Wen is practically bowing and scraping.
I stride in.
This guy is acting even more high and mighty than me. Unacceptable.
“How’d you get in here?” Lin Wen is stunned.
I walk over, yank the confused Mr. Liang out of his chair, and sit down.
“Door wasn’t locked.”
Lin Wen panics, stands up, and tries to explain. “Mr Liang. , sorry, this is...”
“You hush.” I glare at Lin Wen, then turn to Mr. Liang. “Name?
"Liang Yimu "
What do you want?”
Mr.Liang looks nervous. “Uh, , here to discuss investment...”
“How much?”
“Uh, fifty million...”
Smack! I slap the table. “Fifty million and you’re still hesitating?”
“Well, it depends on your company’s prospects...” Liang Yimu stammers.
“Depends on what?” I glare, pick up my tea, and sip calmly. “Mr. Liang, I want two hundred million. This isn’t a negotiation, it’s an announcement. Got it?”
“And you have three seconds to decide.”
Lin Wen is completely lost.
“One”
Liang Yimu freezes, sweat beading on his forehead. “Uh...”
“Two” I hold up two fingers.
Lin Wen grits his teeth. “What the hell are you doing?”
“We need to discuss with our CEO...” Liang Yimu stammers.
“Three”
I stand up.
Immediately, Liang Yimu stops me. “Two hundred million, no problem. Let’s sign the contract right now”
Lin Wen is speechless. “Wait... isn’t this a bit hasty?”
After the contract is signed, Lin Wen walks Liang Yimu downstairs.
Liang Yimu pats Lin Wen on the shoulder and smiles. “Next time, just have President Su handle negotiations.”
Lin Wen: ?
Back in the lounge, Lin Wen asks, “Do you know Mr. Liang?”
I sigh, look up at the ceiling. “That summer, when I first arrived in Jiangnan, I met a man...”
Lin Wen’s eyes light up. “Mr. Liang?”
“Nope.” I shake my head. “A pickpocket. He stole my wallet.”
Lin Wen: ... ...
I got the job.
Lin Wen even gave me a three-month bonus.
So, naturally, I had to celebrate at a bar before starting work.
My best friend, Yun Shu, didn’t hesitate to join me.
She brought a few friends along.
“Can’t believe you actually landed a job,” Yun Shu mused. “Maybe my dream of getting rich isn’t so far off after all.”
Me: ... ...
“Cheer up! Let’s celebrate your promotion.”
She clapped my shoulder and suggested a round of Truth or Dare.
First round, I lost.
“Truth or dare?” she grinned.
I tilted my head. “Dare, obviously.”
“See that table over there” Yun Shu pointed to a booth not far away. “The guy in the short sleeves, back to you. Go over, give him two hundred yuan, and tell him you’re booking him for the night.”
I squinted at the guy, then got up and walked over.
Behind me, Yun Shu gave me a thumbs-up.
I tapped the guy on the shoulder.
He turned around. Whoa this puppy-faced guy is cute. Like, movie star cute. Those big puppy-dog eyes looked at me with a hint of mischief.
“Need something, sis?” he asked, grinning.
His friends started teasing. “Nice, Another admirer!.”
I smiled, pulled two hundred yuan from my wallet, and slipped it into his shirt collar. “You’re booked for the night.”
The booth went silent.
Puppy boy squinted at me, then said, “Alright, sis. Your place or mine?”
I ignored him and walked back.
Even after I sat down, I could feel his eyes on me.
“You lucky thing,” Yun Shu said, envious. “That puppy is seriously hot!”
I shot her a look. “You want him, you can have him.”
After some banter, we played another round.
I lost again.
Yun Shu cackled. “I dare you to go get your two hundred yuan back from him.”
I: ... ...
“Can I switch to truth now?”
“What do you think?” Yun Shu threatened.
Fine.
I admitted defeat and walked back to the puppy boy.
His friends nudged him. “Hey, your rich lady’s back”
“Hey, sis,” puppy boy grinned. “Ready to pick a place for us?”
I held out my hand. “Sorry, I just realized you’re not quite my type. Can I have my two hundred back?”
His friends’ smiles froze.
“Huh?”
Puppy boy looked at me, indignant. “If I’m not your type, then who is?”
I glanced around and spotted a tall guy in a crisp white shirt.
“Him,” I said.
The guy turned around.
Lin Wen?
He saw me and blinked, then walked over.
Su Nianci?” he asked, confused. “What are you doing here so late?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” I shot back.
He paused, then got mad. “Who’s the boss here, you or me? I should be asking you.”
I nodded. “It’s just a title.”
“Has anyone ever told you you’re nuts?” Lin Wen sneered.
I nodded. “Yep. I have a phobia of idiots. Big, dumb ones.”
Lin Wen: ... ...
He frowned, glanced at the puppy boy. “Go home, it’s late. Not safe out.”
“Come on, uncle,” puppy boy teased. “Trying to steal her away?”
“Let’s go, President Lin,” I said, tossing him my car keys. I blew a kiss to puppy boy. “Next time, I’ll book you for the whole weekend.”
“Let’s go!” Lin Wen grumbled, dragging me out.
Behind us, puppy boy called, “Sis, I’ll be waiting for that rain check”
Yun Shu gave me a big thumbs-up.
Outside, Lin Wen got in the passenger seat while I sprawled out in the back.
Suddenly, he seemed to realize something.
“Wait a minute, am I the boss or are you?”
In the end, Lin Wen drove my beat-up old Nissan and dropped me off at home, muttering the whole way.
“If you weren’t a woman, I’d have left you on the curb...”
I shot back, “Quiet down, your breathing is distracting my eyes.”
